About me

My Tarantula story so far

My name is Sascha, I'm 23 years old and I was born and raised in the Netherlands. I currently work for 28 hours a week at a drugstore. I got a boyfriend, named Jesper, and he's from Sweden. We've known eachother since December 2012 and we first met in person 20 September 2013. Our relationship became serious at 13 October 2013. In a couple of years (I'd say in 2017/2018) I'm planning to emigrate to Sweden and start a live together.

Other than my passion for tarantulas, scorpions, reptiles, etc., I like to game, listen to music and photography.

But, enough about me... Here's my story:

Since young age I was always busy with insects, arthropods, amphibians, invertebrates, etc. I just enjoyed catching them and see them move around. I also liked to draw wild animals, such as lions, kangaroos and mooses.

In 2006 (I was 14 y.o.) I was an intern at a drugstore for my education. One of the workers in that store kept tarantula's and she talked a lot about them during the days. At one point, she mentioned she just received an egg sac from one of her Brachypelma albopilosum females. She asked if I would like to take care of one of the little babies. After my parents accepted that offer, I got my very first tarantula! I named him Bullet.

After about three years he grown up to be a beautiful mature male. Males live very short compared to the females, so he died shortly after reaching his maturity.

After a while I started to miss having a tarantula so I started looking on websites and I found a website that looked pretty nice. I made an appointment and I got to choose a few tarantula's. I got a mature female Brachypelma albopilosum, a spiderling Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens and a spiderling Brachypelma smithi.

During the years I ordered more tarantulas online and I also visited some expo's in the Netherlands. Hopefully I can visit the big expo in Germany one day. To this day I got 37 tarantulas and 1 scorpion in my collection.

Aside from tarantulas, spiders and scorpions I'm a big fan of reptiles; snakes, bearded dragons, iguana's and other lizards, I love them!

I used to have 3 bearded dragons but I had to sell them because of the high energy bills, unfortunately. In the future I will definitely get myself a new bearded dragon and maybe even a snake.
